Fan clutch noise
Good day! 96 Taco 4X4 2.7L.
I'm on my third brand new fan clutch in about 9 months. The first one was like a direct drive, with the fan just roaring no matter what the temperature. So I replaced it with another under warranty. Seemed all right at first, but soon it was doing the same thing. On start-up, the fan roars away until proper operating temp has been reached, then eventually it will slow down to the point where I can't hear it, and the belts don't start squealing @ 4000 rpm. But after months of putting up with it, I decided I better replace it again. This one does the same thing. Any ideas? |

Are you using OEM parts? I only ask because I had to replace the factory one in my Dodge and picked one up at NAPA to save a few bucks. Noisiest thing in the world, drove me nuts.

Nah. Couldn't see spending $245 instead of $90. Japanese product though, not Chinese. Beck Arnley brand.
I'm thinkin' of takin' the fan off for the winter, and maybe the fan clutch will "seat itself in", as it were. Just so I don't have to listen to it. |

Well, I went and did it. I removed the fan last night 'cause I just couldn't stand the noise any more. And the belt squealing when getting up past 4,000 rpm.
On the way into work this AM everything went well. Heater was good, gauge was good. But the quiet purrrrrrr of 2.7L of pent up fury sounded so nice, 'specially when I stood on it, and all it did was graciously accelerate without complaint, was like music to me. Time will tell how long I can sit in traffic before the needle starts to climb. I'll use the winter to devise the perfect electric fan and housing so I can continue cruising into the summer. I'll keep you posted. Bob |

Keep us in the loop on the electric fans.
there are a few kits pre-made but they cost. $350.... I saw a trhead of ford tuars fan and other makes. If I could just model come lexal or plastic and mount 2 fans I would be happy. |
