How will 33" tires affect my gas mileage?

I have the 2.7 4 cylinder. I'm running 31x10.50's with a 3" suspension lift now, I'd like to upgrade to 33x10.50 or 33x11.50. How will these run on stock gears? Will I lose a lot of power and gas mileage?

I put 33's and if I treat it like a virgin then I can get 300 miles out of the tank but if go between offroad and street and drive it normal I lose about 20ish miles a tank.

you will lose power for sure and unless you keep the tach below 2k you will lose MPG's like crazy

I'm getting 16.5mpg after regearing to 4.88, same as before regearing.

All numbers corrected for tire size, gear ratio, etc...

with stock gears and ~3" lift i lost about the same as everyone else, about 20miles/tank. According to my scan gauge I get about 18mpg combined which is pretty much the same as before... The power loss was noticeable but only really when accelerating from a stop.. IMHO totally worth it

Doesn't sound too bad. Any recommendations for tires? I'm thinking BFGoodrich mud terrain T/A...

Also, how much strain will 33's put on my motor? I got 250+ miles on the original motor, so I don't wanna overwork it

So will going with a wider tire make any difference as far as gas mileage?

This is a simple physics problem. It doesn't matter which dimension of the tire is larger...a larger tire weighs more and requires more energy to move it. The only way your truck can produce more energy is by burning more fuel.

yup
More rolling resistance and more rotational mass
I heard somewhere that it take 3x the force to move weight at the edge of the wheel than that centered at the center

Negatively. You could put 4.11's in it or 4.56's but the increased ride height and tread will still hurt.

If losing only a mile or two per gallon is it, its not that big of a deal, I think I'm gonna keep my 31's for awhile tho, just in case

It really depends on the load range/weight of the tire. Load range E's will kill your MPGs. I moved up from P245/75R16 to P265/75R16 and noticed no decrease in mpg, with possibly an increase on the highway.
