Why no 2.7 4X4 auto?

Why is there no 4X4 regular cabe 2.7 automatic offered? I know they used to offer 4 cylinder auto 4X4 models in regular cab.

think about this for a second, the v6 auto 4x4 gets 20mpg, the 2.7 stick 4x4 gets 22 mpg. by the time you added a auto thats gonna cut the mileage by 1-2 mpg, you might as well by the v6 if thats gonna happen

My V6 4x4 automatic produces 266 ft/lbs of torque.

No argument on the V6 having plenty of power and being fun to drive. The 4 banger base fit my budget better though and it hauls everything I need to haul, mostly mulch, home improvement supplies ect. I have had several 5-speed mustangs, I am just tired of driving a stick in traffic that's why I went with an auto on the truck. I just think a 4WD auto would be a nice addition to the line up. But I guess there must not be enough demand for one or they would build it. I can get by with 2WD.

No auto 4 from 05 onward in any body

A week ago I bought my first taco, an 06 access 4x4--It is my first manual car in at least twenty, maybe thirty years. I needed the 4 because I need 4x4 and wanted the better gas mileage. I am surprised at how often I have to shift as I tootle around around town, trying to juggle my cellphone, coffee, and ciggie, and sometimes a pen. With auto you have a hand free. I also have a short-legged(but sweet!) girlfriend. She can drive manual, but, in spite of yoga, the start-up stretch is a problem for her.

So its a bit of a hassle to not have auto on any wonderful 4i Tacos. And the auto 6 argument makes sense. Still, too bad.

And to repeat: there is no four cylinder auto offered in any body style beginning in 05.

Yup, ya sure are saving those pennies! Under full load which will use more gas though?

Not bashing just saying.

A couple of reasons come to mind:

1.The 05 and newer body style is considered a midsize truck, not a compact like 1st gens are. (which means they are heavier)

2. the 4wd platform adds more weight in additon to the allready bigger truckbody when compared to the 1st gens that had 4cyl 4wd AT.

3. Standard transmission will better dispurse the low power output of the 4cyl, while a 4cyl 4wd AT access cab would work itself into to an early grave downsshifting all the time.

Toyota has always built bullet proof 4 banger truck, a manual tranny is more durable then an auto.

You have a good point, but that 6cyl. (which is a hell of an engine might I add) and the auto are going to hit your pocket book pretty hard if you are 'pinching pennies.'

- my 2 cents I saved pinching pennies.

Most likely, Toyota didnt sell enough regular cab 4x4s with auto trannys in the '08 model year, so they simply dropped it.
If their market research shows enough of a demand for that truck with an automatic, they will offer it in the future.
Typically, what options they keep or drop depends upon sales numbers. If the demand for a certain option is so-so, its optional and if there is very little demand, they drop it.

The 2.7 4x4 is probably too sluggish with an auto? I guess. I personally like shifting the gears my self with any 4 banger vehicle to make the best use of the limited power. Auto trany's do not transfer power as directly as a manual.
