4 cyl advantages?

What specifically are the advantages of 4 cylinder?

I'd like see what's out there on thoughts regarding 4 Cylinder vs v6.
We chose 4 cylinder over V6 because of the gas range plus the extra "power" isn't needed for this momma.
Input?

You will find the overall maintenance of your Taco will be easier and mostly cheaper with the 4 banger. Your valve never need adjusting, unlike the present V-6, and you have a timing chain that should never need replacing, unlike a engine with a timing belt. You have a ton of room under the hood to do whatever you would like to do. Unless you got a need for a bigger motor, the present engine will be a great and reliable friend.
Now it is not perfect, you will find your automatic shifting in overdrive too soon most of the time if you have one, so you will have to keep your foot on the gas a bit. This is the only thing I have found to be a disadvantage, but you will find that unless you tow or haul a lot of heavy stuff you will have the perfect motor for most situations.

Wow! Thanks for the insight.
I knew I didn't want to pay for a V6....
4 Cyl seems to be the most economic all around.
Thanks again for the input!

I think you will find that the 4 cylinder is just plain fun to drive. You will smile a lot and that is all we can ask of a truck.

reliable as F***!
though when I get back from Florida I'm going to have to replace my valve gasket due to leaking and my power steering return line/seal (?)
other than that, nothing has happened mechanically wise

You can run the shit out of the motor. I put 1200 pounds of potatoes in the bed and it ran like a champ. Course the suspension was stressed out as hell.

There are a lot of advantages to the 4-cylinder, but keep in mind you will lose a lot of hp and torque, and you may end up with similar mpg as the V-6.

I drove 240 miles round trip yesterday, one way with a load and used 10 gal's of gas. 61000 mi. Only thing I've ever done is change the oil. Toyota 4 cyl engines are known for being bulletproof.

well i have a 4" lift, 35" tires and 4.56 gears. Bumper, front and rear glass dont help with the aerodynamics and I got 24 on my last fill up. It has plenty of power for what I need/when I need it

Hey how do you like the 4.56 gears on your truck? I have 3" of lift and 285's and have been wanting to regear for better power when accelarating and stuff.

Mated with the 5 speed, a 2.7 can easily pull my 32's around town and on the highway achieving 21mpg average. Sounds great, performes great and with 264,xxx miles I feel that this truck won't be seeing the grave for a good while.

Loved the 4.56 with 255/85 but really should go with 4.88 to prolong driveline components

lol. I had the 6 cylinder in my '99 Taco. Was too much power and horrible mpgs. In my '10, I love the 4 banger. And when it pulls a big hill I find myself patting the dashboard saying "good job". Like someone else said, it's just fun. I can also easily get 360 miles to a tank with 32's.
