I run Gimmicks setup too. 5100's on all four corners with stock coils up front. I think it's the perfect setup for a DD that see's off-roading once in awhile. Ive taken my truck through its paces and the suspension has held up great. 265 tires clear just fine.

You're definitely going to feel a slight loss in power and acceleration, it won't be much though. The difference in weight and friction between the two tires will play a factor. The stance, and look of the truck will look better and the ride should be slightly firmer which is nice.

I just bought my first Tacoma last week, the 2.7L Access Cab. My previous truck was a 2003 Silverado 2500 gas guzzler! 11mpg on a good day! This thing feels like a EZ-Go golf cart and I love it.

I'm curious if there has ever been a study to depict the differences in a wider tire or a taller tire more adversely affecting things like mpg, aero dynamics, wear and tear, etc ...... I know many pros and cons for both, both on and off road, but scientific conclusions would be cool to see

Two days ago I noticed a weird clicking or knocking noise coming from what sounds like the driver's side under my left foot. The sound is absent at high speeds and bumps over 20mph.
At low speeds and in parking lots it sounds like the noise people get with bad bearings and loose brake parts. You can make it knock by wiggling the steering wheel back and forth while going about 10mph and during initial acceleration over a bump.

    Any ideas?

    1) I am running TPMS straps on factory TRD wheels. My truck came with steels and I replaced them. I wonder if the strap didn't come loose?

    2) I'd been to a car wash the day before I noticed it. It wasn't the brush kind, it was 'spray only'. But nothing seems to be out of place.

    3) I have a very noisy clutch pedal; creaks like a haunted house. The noise seems to be coming from just behind the mechanism. I'd done the twirling the bolt above it but I don't do that any more because it doesn't help anymore.

    4) I have had to use 4WD a lot. We have three feet of snow on the ground and the driveway is icy and a tight turnaround so lots of shifting in and out of 4WD. It has been about 15 degrees during the day and lots of 0 and below at night but the noise doesn't seem affected by that, I went on a long drive this morning to see if it was ice/temperature but it was still there when I got home.

    The truck is a 2014 manual transmission 2.7 4WD with 11,200 miles

Check the plastic fender well shield to see if its rubbing on the tire 2.) Check the skidplate mine bent a little bit and would vibrate against the frame over bumps and stuff 3.) Theres a rubber vent boot on the transmission drivers side you can spray some lubricant into to make that squeak go away for a month or two (ihave the same problem)

I sure hope there are going to be places like that when I move to north west Washington!

I would hope so.. pretty similar to the lower mainland. I'd have to say the main difference will be the vastness and the amount of space here. You can drive for days and never leave the dirt

It actually seemed related to temperature. As soon as it went back up to 20s during the day and not the single digits/teens the noise stopped.

As for the creaky clutch, after a while the lube trick stops working....I've tried that...but thanks! And it is the exact opposite of temp...when the inside of the truck is warm the pedal is very noisy.

Love this thread guys, I may be trading in my 2013 RC for an AC, I had an RC that was MT in 2012, loved it until the trans made a lot of noise and Toyota gave me a smoking deal to trade into a 2013 with AT. Well what I miss the most is being able to just floor it on the freeway and keep it in 5th gear, my little AT always downshifts and revs pretty good. If I use the cruise it holds the gear a little longer and acts like the engine is being loaded more which I like.

Anyways, is everyone rocking the MT as much as it seems?
My only negative is my fiancé doesn't know how to drive a manual,
I like the fact the price difference is almost 1000.

Maybe she will be learning soon, lol...

My old 2012 R/C MT did the exact same thing, took it to the dealer and they replaced the clutch pedal assembly. Something about a TBS on it.
The pedal assembly is basically snapped on like a ball socket joint to the actuation arm that goes through the firewall.

Good luck getting the squeak repaired. What I did in the mean time was reach under the dash and rotate the shaft coming out of the pedal assembly. That would work for a few days. Lol...

So what's the consensus on the M/T versus the A/T when it comes to the AC and being used off-road and such.

Is it me or so I seem to see more manual trucks than auto. Is this due to the added weight of the AC?

On a side note, what tire size upgrade really should have a re-gear? Is it different for the M/T and the A/T or the same.

Trucks look great, I am an RC owner secretly spying the AC as maybe me next Tacoma!
