I would think that 2 inch PVC pipe and "Y" connectors would work well. You could secure the vertical uprights to the rail system. You could even spray paint the PVC the color of your truck.

I have thought on this a bit. I think will need some sort of tie/spreader connecting the two vertical uprights if you only connect at the bedrail. This will keep the the verticals from pivoting. This can be PVC as well.

Dry fit the pieces to insure fit before gluing. Once glued you will not be able to take it apart and will have wasted material.
