2.7L I4 No Start

The truck was running rough and now will crank over but will not start.

1995.5 Tacoma ODB2

I've checked the basics spark, compression and fuel. New distribution, plugs wires...getting good spark. Compression has also checked out. Also checked all fuses and relays underhood and dash.
I do not hear the fuel pump cycle with the key. I also cannot get a obd scanner shows unable to establish connection, check engine light does not display. Any help is appreciated.

 

The crankshaft position sensor seems to be an issue with those trucks.

 

I bought one and just plugged it into the connector. It's too late to install. Fuel pump still didn't prime and check engine light not one. Any other ideas?

Was it making noises? Stalling out?

 

Sorry it's not my truck so not alot of details to go off of. It was stalling out prior and sputtering.
Still not sure why I can't establish connection to the computer, I checked all the obvious.

 

Update: EFI fuse was blown. I can now connect to the computer P0100 reset and unhooked the battery this will not clear. Getting 12v to the meter and about to OHM out the meter. I have a three prong and can only find 5 prong specs.

 

Your P0100 code is a MAF,(mass air flow ) sensor problem. Your Taco has a VAF (variable air flow) sensor, and here is a link for a test sequence for it. I know it comes from a 4 runner, but it is the same year and should be close to the same. I know that on Mazda Miatas with this same VAF control , the wiring controls the air flow and the fuel pump also. It may be same with this one also. I would check the wiring connector and the wires for fraying or lost connectors. You may need a new VAF, as those are not adjustable.

Check the ground wires that attach to the frame. I bought a $75 truck (90 Mazda 4x4) that didn't start for the owner. I dragged it home, looked underneath and the ground wire to the frame was rotted off. I reconnected the wire, gave a Hail Mary and it started right up and ran beautifully. Go figure.

 

Thanks all! It was a combination of things, the MAF replaced the P0100 code. Now I just gotta check the ignition timing and we should be all set.
