I've owned both, a 94 2.4 liter and an 03 3.4 . I'll say go with the 4 pot as long as you're not hauling some heavy loads. If you're going to have it loaded down with people or cargo, then get the V6. You'll make that 4 cylinder work pretty hard with a load in stop and go traffic. Need low end power to avoid revving it too high and wasting gas.

I got 18.4 around town in the 4 using fuelly here in Boston last week. When I had a v6 auto rental it did 15 doing the same things over a week with mixed stop and go lights. That is pretty average for city in these things.

You'd be surprised how much low end grunt the 2TR's have. I've had ~900 lbs in the back my 06 RC several times, plus my wife and I in the front, and hardly noticed any change in acceleration characteristics. The nose sits higher, even with my helper springs, but I never really had to gas it any more than normal to get up to speed. This may or may not be considered a 'heavy load', I don't know, I was just pleasantly surprised the first time I loaded it up.
