K&N low miles per tank

This past Sunday I installed a K&N drop in filter. With the same driving habits as normal, I have seen a decrease on the miles on a tank. Usually at half tank with the OEM I'm around 275 miles. Currently with the K&N I'm at 190 miles. What could be causing this? Oil getting on MAF?

Going by half tanks is very inaccurate. the only tru way to find out how much you are losing is by measuring miles driven after a fill up and divide it by how much gas you put it. That being said K&N is made for more power not more MPGs direct opposite.

If you over oiled it yes it could cause issues. I've never seen a filter swap drop MPG's that bad.

Did you install it right out of the bag from K&N? They over oil the shit out of them since they get stored for a long time. I tell people to pull it from the bag and let it sit for a few days on a paper towel or something. You'd be surprised how much oil drains out.

Yes right out of the bag. May purchase the AFE dry one. I took it out like you said. Have the OEM in for a few days

I can get almost 260 out of a half a tank, so it's possible. I have a AFE put in mine and I can barely notice a MPG increase but I do notice it more in the city than I do on the highway.

I looked at your fuelley but I thought 1st gens had a 2.3 in them not 2.7 ???

I need to learn you driving characteristics or is there that much difference in the mpg's on a 1st gen and 2nd gen ?

Shift at 2500 and don't rev past 2500 on the freeway. Don't lug 5th but drive easy.

Don't use the AC around town put the windows down, on the highway use the AC. ... Open windows cause drag. Make sure tire pressure is set to the specs. Avoid letting truck idle to get warm get in it and drive. Don't idle for extended periods.

A/C might be the culprit. It's hot in South Carolina in the summer.
