High idle

I just put a new head on my 2.7 Its starts and runs strong but its idling around 2000rpm It trys to drop back to normal idle sometimes which lead me to belive it was the TPS but I put a new one on and no change. I traced all the vacumme lines and everything looks good I even sprayed starting fluid all around while it was running to see if I got a change and nothing. Im not getting a check engine light.

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas. I dont want to have to put it on the dio.

 

Wonder if that new head was a milled head. Higher compression ratio might idle faster, also would 'run strong'.

 

The amount of higher compression from a simple milled head would not cause a higher idle. I have a milled head that I installed on my engine and I never had an idle issue.

Check the basic mechanical parts first Dan. Did you accidentally adjust the throttle cable too tight? Is the cable or pedal binding/stuck? Look at the linkage for issues. Is the CEL on? Possible codes could be the culprit. Not all codes will turn on a CEL, so scan for codes just to be sure.

OP, you mentioned that you have a 2.7 but more information would help. What year? Auto or manual? 2 or 4wd? The more information you provide the better off we can help.

 

Sounds like a vacuum leak.
