Thinking of buying 2013 4 cyl 4x4

Thinking about getting a new vehicle. I'm considering a base model 4x4 4cyl access cab with the 5 speed.

What should I be expecting to pay? I had on stealership quote me at $24k

I priced one out a few years ago and got a quote of $20k....a $4k price increase just seems insane to me.

What kind of deal should I expect to get?

My MSRP on my 2010 was $25,600, I paid $22,800 with the SR5 package at Acton MA. Probably $26,500 today so subtract $1500 for the SR5 if you don't get it and work with that. You get a better price dealing with the online departments at dealers. Ask them for the rock bottom price and you will usually get one to compare. I guess in the 22-23k range is where you are looking at. Taxes give you another $1800 onto that so factor that in.

Edit:You got a $24k offer go for it. They don't drop the price much on these. My truck is still selling for $19k-$20k

I am using USAA for their car buying service and the MSRP is $25095 and the price they suggest to offer is $22804.
Adding SR5 to the mix makes the MSRP $26815 and the suggested price to offer $24437.
This is for my specific area, yours should be close to that.

Use edmunds.com or other buyer info service to see the factory invoice price including delivery and all the options, add about 500 to that for markup, plus the various assorted doc fees.

I was shopping about a year ago and I got a quote for $24K as well. As noted, Toyota doesn't deviate much from the list price. They also don't offer special deals as they do on Camry, Corolla and others. Because of the popularity of the truck, they get full asking price. I would still try asking for a better price as others have offered here in the thread, but I wouldn't expect them to move much (or any).

Also noted, the Tacoma retains good value as the years pass. The only reason I got a new truck quote was because the difference between that and a 2 year old used truck was negligible (where miles were low). I opted to get a first gen truck and was still amazed at how much value the truck retained. Bottomline: the trucks are an excellent value at $24K. With proof of proper care and maintenance, you can expect to recoup the majority of your investment even after 10 years of ownership.

PS - I was looking at the base unit

With inflation your 20,000 in 2009 is $24,000 now......

My dad bought his 2012 4x4 automatic single cab for 21,000 plus tax you have to shop around. This dealership was 1.5 hour away, the one in town wanted 23,000 for the same truck.

I got my 2012 RC 4x4 manual for $21,500. This was in late 2011. I likely left money on the table as I'm a terrible negotiator.
I just called my dealership to price out a trade for a 4cyl DC and he ball parked a price of $25,500 after "discounts and rebates".
Im not gonna say $24k is a fair shake but inflation in my industry is running high. We use to lock in pricing for a year but it's impossible to do now with steel and other raw materials all over the charts.

I just got 2012 AC 4x4 SR5 2.7 for like $23k (leftover, 30 miles on it)

So take $1500 off for SR5 and your looking at $21.5

Offer them around there and see if they bite.

edit: Find a dealership that does "equote". There is one on the south shore. McGee toyota, they had a truck listed at 27k, I emailed them for an "equote" and it came back at $23.5 With the internet and everybody competing online, you really can get the best deal just by emailing around. Then you don't have to haggle in person. Just print out the best price you got from any of the dealerships and bring the paper with you.

In June, my 2012 AC 4x4 SR5 5 speed was $23k. I went to three dealerships and this was the best price out of all three. UBS and my union's buying service wouldn't cut the price more than that.

I also got the run around from two dealers about how the car I wanted- and the one I got- wasn't popular because I didn't want the TRD package AND I wanted a stick. I was told that there were NONE available on the east coast and it would cost me $400 to have one shipped. I found one at my local dealer.

I also had a run in with the first dealer about buying one in a stick. For him, it came down to two things: 1) I was a woman and 2) Only an idiot (see #1) would buy a pick up truck in a stick.

As long as it's reasonable, a 4cyl 4x4 is a damn good choice
