How much oil does the 2.7 hold?

I have always had the dealership change my oil, but decided to do it myself this time. I noticed the manual says 5.8 qts. , but the receipts I have from past oil changes shows 5 qts. Which is correct with a filter change??

Most of the people on this forum are putting 5.5 quarts in the 2.7 and the 4.0. My owners manual on my 2.7 says 6.1 quarts, but according to the dipstick, that's too much.

I use Mobil 1 5w20 in my 2.7. The V6 calls for 5w30.

I put 5 quarts. The dipstick tells me that's just fine. Also makes it easier to buy oil, I just buy a 5-quart jug.

Yeah, I dont know why. I've done three oil changes, and nothing has gone wrong so far.

I am just OCD about stuff like that. I just want to do my own oil changes , but not F anything up you know. I guess I will go with 5.5 and see what happens. I wish this dipstick was easier to read.

I just changed the oil in my 2008 2.7. I put 5 qts in and the dipstick showed the level to be just above the lower dot by about 1/4 inch. So I poured in about 1/4 of a quart for a total of 5.25 quarts and it seemed to look good. Ofcourse it's hard to tell, because the dipstick is so hard to read.

I change my own every time. You don't have to necessarily add exactly what it calls for, just use the manual for a good estimate. Mine calls for 5.something, so I always buy six. I don't start checking the dipstick till after I have added 5, then add what I need from there.

5.5 qt is a great starting point, I had to put in about 4 oz more to get to the top mark. A cheap pair strong reading glasses or a magnifying glass really helps reading the dipstick when the oil is clean. You can get the cheap reading glasses at the dollar stores.
