Before buying is there anything you guys can tell me about the 5 spd. In terms of transmission/clutch issues? I'm going to get a 2012/13 model and I really need some advice before purchasing, I am leaning towards the 4x2 prerunner. Any of you guys regret getting the manual? I've heard so many mixed reviews

    Thanks!!

Holy crap, does it not? I just tried to configure one on Toyota.com and I don't think it does. I was so intent on getting one in manual because that's all I drive

Get a non prerunner 4cyl 2x4 with a 5spd then lift it a little and put some bigger tires on it. The only issue I have with my 5spd is the clutch will squeak from time to time.

    I got the 4Wheelin4Banger AC with a 5 speed & love it.
    4th Toyota truck, all 4Bangers but 1st 4x4 & 1st AC.
From what I've heard the auto sucks with a 4Banger.

the 6 speed manual had a few issues

I have a 4 cyl AC 4x4 manual and I absolutely love it :D I have the famous clutch squeak but it really isnt a big deal to me, I had the squeak on my 2000 4x4 sr5 also.

Pre-runner is available in 2 configurations for 2013.

    2.7L 4 speed automatic
    4.0L 5 speed automatic

Making your own pre-runner with a lift on the 5 lug 2wd is your only option for a manual.

Mine has a manual transmission with no problems. Works well and is economical to drive.

Clutch & Flywheel replaced under warranty with 28k miles. A lot of 2.7's with the LUK clutch start slipping real bad. AISIN clutches are ok - no problems.

The AC 2.7L 4x4 is the biggest model you can get in the 4cyl, I have one and I like it alot it doesn't have the braaaaap factor but it gets me where I need to go while getting 22mpg

    Check out my build:)
You shouldn't be disappointed in the 2.7L/5 speed its a fun package, gets good miles, and gets the job done I absolutely love mines!!
I drive a 2.7L/Auto at work and the powerband in my opinion isn't great and would probably be worse if plans of larger tires and offroading are going to be done

I have the squeaky clutch too gets annoying a lil but no biggy I usually got my sounds bumpin so I don't hear it really

Where are you guys getting your 4x4 5 speeds? Special ordering them? I live in the south where most people who buy trucks are too stupid and lazy to shift their own gears so pretty much none of the dealerships within 50 miles carry anything manual. If I special order will they negotiate prices?

Mine was the only 2.7 5 speed 4x4 AC at the 3 dealerships that are within 100 or more miles of me.
My luck it was at the closest one, had the convenience package that I wanted & even in my #1 color choice.

I just joined the forum. Purchased a used 2013 4 cylinder 4x4 access cab Tacoma with 5 speed manual a couple of weeks ago. Liking it so far. Traded in a 1995 Ford Ranger 6 cylinder. The one I got had 5200 miles on it. Supposedly either the wife did not like the manual transmission or the husband wanted a 6 cylinder. Anyway, so far, so good.

I live in the upstate SC, 2 local dealers have 4 cylinder Access cab, 4x4's with manual transmissions. One is white and one is silver with the black trim around the wheels. You mentioned not seeing them in metro Atlanta. Just passing it on. I looked at both of these before buying the one I got. Toyota of Greer (white one) and Dave Edwards Toyota (silver one). Oddly neither website posts actual pictures of those 2 vehicles. Best wishes finding a truck that works for you.
