Doug Thorley header install question

I got my DT headers in tonight, no codes, all looks good. Just one thing on the tone of the headers.

Are they fairly throaty from under the hood? I'm wondering if I might have a bolt or 2 too loose. I haven't done headers since a 95 v8 and I don't recall them being that loud on acceleration.

If something is loose, it's going to sound like a .22 firing.
Pop pop pop pop....
Headers are louder and tend to "ping" because of the thinner wall compared to the cast manifold.
Didn't notice it on the V8 because it was probably louder overall, or the car had better sound insulation (Tacoma has very little).

It doesn't sound like a .22 at least, just louder than I expected and quite throaty under the hood under moderate throttle and higher.
I couldn't find/feel any leaks, but stopped since it was getting dark.
One thing that baffled me was there wasn't a gasket on the truck for the flange where the header meets the pipe to the cat.

Solved it today, the gasket for the header/midpipe flange wasn't where I thought it was when I put it on in the dark. I couldn't find it so I was sure it was on, yet the sound said otherwise.

It now sounds like stock, tone isn't any real difference, but it feels freed up over 3000 rpm, feels a bit smoother and quicker going up through the rpm's. FWIW if I had a v-6 I'd do headers there too so the "why not just buy a v-6" camp is invalid.

........need another mod now reg cab/short box/v6 mod getting closer.
