There's a difference among each of the 4x2's. Prerunner is the same as the 4x4.

http://toyotaoff-road.com/resources/...oductSpecs.pdf

5 lug 4AT = .705 * 3.583 = 2.53
5 lug 5MT = .805 * 3.307 = 2.66
Prerunner = .805 * 4.100 = 3.3
4X4 = Same as Prerunner

That 4 cylinder is way tougher that most people know. Keep clean oil in it, drive it like you have just a little bit of sense and it will out last the truck.

Thanks. I didn't realize that in 2011 they converted the I4 Prerunner from being 5MT only to 4AT only.

Edit: This PDF also shows an obvious typo from someone in the prior one. Displacement is 2694 cc, not 2964 cc. Torque is also 180, not 280 for the I4. At least the gear ratios seem correct. That's all I looked at previously.

The actual official 2009 specifications are available here:

The truck only had 1000 miles on it when I left and I got 22.1 mpg
I have found that 70-75 mph is the MPG/power "sweet spot" for the 2.7 liter 5 speed 4x4. Best combination of power and economy. You're both right, it really loves to cruise at just under 3k rpm.

My 4x4 usually gets me a steady 24 mpg at that speed. To get better steady mpg, I have to drop down to about 60 mph or less, at which point I can see upwards of 26 mpg but I have to downshift more on hills because I'm out of the powerband in 5th gear.
