I have a '98 toy tacoma w/120,600 on it. just bought it about 2 mo ago. check eng light came on w/#1 cyl miss code the day after i bought it. thinking it just needed new plugs, i didn't Drive it through the guys front door(yet)
long story, to make it shorter:

    -changed plugs "NGK"
    -checked coils (good)
    -changed wires to toyota oem's
    -wet and dry checked compression:
    #1:125
    #2:150
    #3:150
    #4:150
    -had toyota flush fuel system
    -cleaned fuel body
Yes, light keeps coming back on

I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem?

I was told by a mechanic that i brought it to, that it needs a valve adjustment (tight valves) ,but it's 5+ hour job = $500-600+ job

New Navigation DVD/CD/TV/AV/Bluetooth Stereo and seat mod spacers, 1" hubcentric spacers, seat heaters....
compression problem to begin with, #1 is low by comparison to other three...and you can do the valve lash setting yourself, just got to remove valve cover and hand crank engine to get all the valves adjusted right, new valve cover gasket when putting together, maybe $25 tops, certainly better than paying someone to do it...it is only four cylinders, that means only eight valves to adjust...

    come on...

Thanks for the reply.Checked the fuel injecters too, seemed fine, not sure what "TPS" stands for though. I was told by another Michanic that it wasn"t the valves(no valve noise) he think it is a bad EGR valve. I was hoping some one would have mentioned that in a reply.

My truck has that misfire type feel, like a hicup when accelerating and i know for a fact its the throttle position sensor. But i dont think that would cause low compression?
