When a seller on ebay offered a $110 MagnaFlow muffler on sale for just $66 with free shipping and no sales tax, being the cheapskate that I am, I just couldn't pass it up. :)

Universal fit Magnaflows come in oval 4"x9" 5"x8" and 5"x11". The lengths are 14" 18" and 22".

The one on sale was the largest oval muffler 5"x11" 22" long... and that's really BIG.

The guy at the muffler shop, Greg at LaBree Motorsports in the San Fernando Valley, did an absolutely beautiful job of fabricating the mandrel bent tubing pieces and custom made hangers to tuck that big muffler into place. The guy's an artist.

With the combination of a long tube header, an oversized muffler, and a long pipe out the back, the sound is incredibly deep and mellow with not one hint of rice anywhere from idle to redline. I'll post a video of the sound when I get the time.IMG_7668_zps516e26be_b9c1763cf5b332ae5d0bc1b13a3c70e409b4cd8c.jpg

It's the exhaust pipe. I punched a hole in the bumper, and the muffler guy fabricated a mandrel bent section to fit it just right. :)

    Nope. :)

Our Tacomas have metric exhaust pipe which is equivalent to 2 3/8" OD. So to compensate for the muffler being more free flowing, I had the exhaust pipe to the bumper fabricated in smaller 2 1/4"OD pipe so as to create backpressure that was lost in the muffler. The muffler guy wanted to do it in 2 1/2", and thought it was odd that I wanted smaller pipe than stock. But it worked out really well and I'm totally pleased with the results. The engine still pulls really strong at low rpms just as it did before... and it sounds great!

I'm also happy how the through the bumper exhaust worked out. It's fun to come up with unique mods that no one else has done on their Tacos. If I didn't need the ground clearance because I live in a rural area, I'd slam my truck because that exhaust would look really badass on a lowered street Taco.

Yes... but not as quiet as stock because the MagnaFlow muffler is straight through. At idle it's completely silent. And in normal driving it's really mellow and deep... but when you stand on it, you hear it. ;)

I usually drive through the valley to/from work. I see online a LaBree Motorsports in Canoga Park; I guess that's the one? I may use him when I'm ready to change my muffler.

Yes, it's the place on Strathern, between Sherman Way and Roscoe, and just West of Canoga. If you want any high quality custom mandrel bent tubing exhaust work done, Greg can do anything including building custom headers.

He bent individual exhaust hangers by eye that perfectly fit the nonstandard oversized muffler. The clearances were really tight, but he made it work... absolutely no squeaks, no rattles, and nothing touching anything it shouldn't. From underneath, my exhaust looks like it belongs on a Corvette... or at least half of a Corvette. ;)
