Hoping to find a used motor for my 1998 4x4
    Can I swap a 1998 3RZ to a 2004 3RZ ?

also :what about using a distributor 3RZ ? can the distributor be removed and plugged and install the cam sensor from the 98 ?

You probably wouldn't have an issue with an 04 as long as you used the ignition system from the 98. I would just double check the sensor setup. Just make sure you can adapt it to your harness.

    I believe the 98 uses a 2 coil system, not a distributor.
The 04 uses a coil on plug system.
The install shouldn't really be an issue. You may have to use the lower intake plenum from the new engine with your upper plenum from your current engine.
Other than that, most of stuff should be the same. Might have to swap some sensors over due to changes in wiring over the years.

See the picture for differences in intakes.
