Which are most recommended? I changed my valve cover gasket yesterday and my buddy came over to take a look and chuckled when he saw my plug wires cause of how small they were (he's building a 68 charger, of course he'd laugh lol) and i was wondering if new plugs and wires would change anything about the performance/ how fast it gets up and goes.

    Anything?

No. Changing plugs and wires will only increase your performance if there is a problem with the current parts, in which case it would misfire or have some other obvious symptom (hesitation, hard starting, poor fuel economy, etc).
