timing chain

    Lift with springs, BFG KM2, yeasu ham radio, custom flat bed, browning shift knob, tools box, mag lite, seat and steering wheel cover
    i am afraid my timing chain is going to snap. is there any way to tell if you need a new one or not?

    The single row timing chain on the later 22r/re's tend to stretch and break the drivers side guide. They then start slapping the side of the timing chain cover. It's a very audible rattling sound at light throttle. But an 83 22r has an earlier version double row timing chain that is not known for any significant problems. You can pop the valve cover off and use a flash light to look down to make sure the guides are still in place. If the guides are still there and you have no weird engine rattles I would say you're probably good to go.
