I know we are talking about 2nd gens here. But I would like to chime in about the whole 4cyl and v6 if I may.

    Go V6. ok I'm done. :p

JK, I owned both a 4cy and a V6 first gen double cab. V6 is the freaking way to go man. the 4cyl was really underpowered. the gas mileage difference is not noticeable at all.

This is true (and stupid). Toyota gives its U.S. sales affiliates way too much authority to dictate what customers can buy. I live in Indiana and they did not sell regular cab 4x4 5-speeds in my region last year. (Of course no one sells Tacoma regular cab anything now.) So, I went 180 miles to Kentucky to get the truck I wanted.

So if you're thinking of getting exactly what you want, toss some different Zip codes into the Toyota website and see what you can get if you drive a few miles.

    It is true.

I did some toying. The website got as far as tracing my datacenter zip code. From there, all the traffic (and replies) are carefully handled and locked down. So, they know I'm within shouting distance of OKC, and that's what they used for a location.

And, I totally agree that this is a horseshit practice. I drove 5 hours one way to get Betty when I bought her.

I thought the same thing. My previous car was a saturn, I4 w twin cam and a feather gas pedal. With the tacoma, i immediately noticed the tension in the gas pedal and was equating it seemingly running better over 10 months, to me getting used to the pedal. Although i bought mine w 12k and it now has 20k, so its clearly broken in.

In regards to the I4 vs the V6, merging, stuck behind someone going slow on highway...a straight block is never gonna boogie like a v block. Ya drive the car according to what it is. Ive got the 4 w auto trans, was torn over that too, but the traffic is sooo much worse than it was 20yrs ago. I couldnt go back to non stop shifting. As my friend says, driving used to be fun. In a rural area i would have looked for a standard shift. I have no complaints with the auto trans at all.

Also, i agree that 60mph, 1900rpm, is the best gas mileage w the 4cyl

I have the I4 in my AC 4x4 with 5spd manual ... I would not want the I4 with an automatic trans ... since that's not available in the DC ... get the V6. And that's all I have to say.

I find the 2.7 to be enough. I have driven the 4.0 and it had lot of power alright. I have better things to do though then spin my tires. I like the 2.7 because it converts what torque it has to travel. Nothing like it if you are crawling around back roads. I can cruise all day at 80 mph although I do slow down on the hills.

Anybody know what 2.7L horsepower and torque rating is on a 2011 std bed?
