I agree that you could say that about any vehicle. However two engines exactly alike and one gets a SC. The SC engine will use more gasoline doing the same thing.

Edit: I don't think anyone said that the SC only makes power at the top end. Just that the impact to MPG is huge at the top end.

Except when there's a bypass on the S/C, like in our trucks, that allows the air to bypass the S/C when the engine is cruising. So then the S/C doesn't take much more gas to operate because it isn't moving any air or holding boost. No work on the S/C means it only takes 2-3 HP to drive it. You aren't going to notice the lose of 2-3 HP at cruise or the extra 5% more fuel it takes to drive the S/C when it's in bypass.

Like I said, the TRD S/C takes extra gas if you're heavy on the skinny pedal. Otherwise most members like me, rock lobster not withstanding, get fairly good mileage for our trucks because most of the time our S/C stays in bypass not supplying boost. I lost maybe 1 mpg overall and I'm very happy with that.

As for the URD charger, yes that one is going to cost you gas. It all depends what you want. On a 4 banger truck if you want the extra power you really don't have many options other than headers and boost if you don't want to trade up to a V6. Just like I said before different strokes for different folks ;).

Good to know. Yeah I have no idea what's wrong with your setup but everything screams there's something not right with it . Oh well, that's the topic for another thread.

Sorry man, $300 just isn't enough money to do anything useful, so save it for something else.

The 2.7 isn't a high revving horsepower engine so I went for low end torque. $1,080 for these bolt on parts...

    header
    intake
    manifold spacer
    muffler

... dyno tested an increase of 29ftlbs of torque while reducing the peak from 3,800 rpms to 2,800 rpms.

Don't buy one lol. They basically "stir" up the air which in old carburated cars helped to even out the fuel air mixture and gain power. Now with modern fuel injection the fuel is perfectly atomized so mixing is already very well done and the throttle is so far back from the injectors that the extra turbulence does nothing for mixing.

No idea WTF you are going on about. More power takes more gas. If you aren't using the blower you aren't making more power, no shit.

You apparently are hearing things not said.

    I rarely exceed 2000 rpm.

    OP asked about under $300.

    Get a grip.

Yup, and for under 300 bucks he should just save his money for something else.

How about getting a 12v powered shop vacuum motor, pipe it into the air intake, hook it up to a switch, then flip the switch on to engage the "poor man's supercharger" when you want a boost in HP.

The 4cyl can be made very fast but not really worth the money.

    Bore and Stroke
    Intake, Headers, exhaust
    Cams, Chip

Could have you around 350-400hp for about $8k ad a turbo for another 100hp and $4K
