Towing a camper

I bought a 2wd crewcab 4cyl 2014 Tacoma last year thinking it was fine for hauling around wood ans stuff like that.

Fast forward a year and I'm in a position that I need to purchase a Camper that I can pull around and live in while my wife and kids stay in our house. I'm military, it a long screwed up situation for another day.

What can i realistically tow with this thing, weight wise?

IIRC, the max towing capacity on the 4 cyl is 3500 lbs, but I doubt you will get close to that and have it tow comfortably. I would say you are probably looking at no more than 2700 lbs. Probably looking at a popup or a small (18 ft or smaller) ultralight travel trailer.

Would you be towing this everyday? Once a week? Etc.? Either way, I'd fully trust it to pull up to the 3500lb rating but it might not be a lot of fun. But hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think since it will need to really only be for one person, you could find a nice setup that would be fine.

I've been towing a 2000lb 16' camper with wife and 2 dogs now for hundreds of miles and many years. Full we are at about 3200 and I have no issues except on steep inclines in the Rockies and then it's just a matter of downshifting.

It's where a manual comes in handy.

Camper in a Takena Curv by the way...but there are much lighter ones now.
