Got a Magnaflow installed today on my 4 banger

When they installed it, they let me listen to it before they welded it in. It sounded great, even up to what sounded like redline reving. However it sounds too loud while accelerating in gear. If I don't get use to it, I'm gonna go back next Sat and see if they can install a small glasspack or resonator in front of it, to quiet it down a little.

But it sounds great reving in neutral (not ricey).

 

Yeah Magnaflows sound way nice! I have a Flowmaster dual exhaust system and I love it!!!

 

What model Magnaflow?

 

Give it a couple weeks before you make up your mind on the noise level. Mufflers have to break in and it will quiet down a little over a week or two.

 

Have you noticed any gains in power at all????

 

Most mufflers get louder when they break in. I know my Borla is now ALOT louder than when i first got it installed. But, regardless, give it a few weeks before you change it. It may grow on you.

Haha actually it seems slower. Might be because I'm short shifting a lot more to keep the sound down or maybe it's because it sounds fast but is actually the same and therefore seems slower.

It does however seem to rev a hell of a lot more free'er and quicker than stock. Mash the throttle in neutral and now the RPM"s climb and drop faster.

I will see how a 18-22" glasspack quiets things down. But it really does sound so nice when you rev it even to the moon. Just sounds kinda like a motorboat when driving it (drone).

Basically it's just a bit too loud as is.

I don't have anything to record sound or video. All I have is a borrowed 3 MP camera that is old and doesn't have any kind video feature.

I might be able to use my laptop to record sound somehow but it would take me a while to figure out how to do it, if I can.

 

I'm still trying to find the receipt to see if it says what model it is. I have a loooot of crap scattered all over my place, paperwork, tools, shipping boxes, new parts, old parts etc. Gonna take me days to organize stuff again.

I have heard that a free'er flowing exhaust adds HP but the tradeoff is in some cases you can loose some torque. Don't know how accurate that is.

Or maybe that was with intakes, not sure now.

 

I put one on but after 3 days I went back to stock. The sound drove me nuts. In town driving, I kinda liked it, but going 50 mph plus It sounded like a bumble bee buzzing in my ear. I seemed to regain a little power when I put stock muffler back on and it sounded / felt like a new truck again.

 

I would love to hear a sound clip of these... anybody??

 

I went with the 24" one too keep the noise down. It worked. Sounds super nice with a nice tone without the riceyness. Not loud either.

But, as with just about anything, perception is all in the user.

not at the moment...I actually was trying to record it when my camera died. Hope to be getting one in a couple of days to replace it. Shopping for one at the moment.

That sounds OK... just enough to make it "throaty". What exactly is your setup? 24" magnaflow? what number?

Did you notice any loss of power?
