Cold air intake for 2.7
I was wondering if anyone has put a K&N cold air intake on their 2.7 and if it made any noticeable difference. I have an 05 4x4 with the 164 horsepower before they changed it to 159. Is it worth the money?

I put the K&N 77 on my 2006 2.7 and I definitely notice the difference in power. Also it sounds awesome when you punch it. Just keep it clean!

FWIW K&N cold air intakes are proven losses on the dyno. Honestly your stock intake gets cold air from the fender so it is a waste of money unless you want it for sound

I agree. Delete the secondary filter on the stock airbox, get an AFE Pro-Dry filter and do the elbow mod (research it). It's just like having an intake and WILL help your tacoma breathe better and will increase your throttle response. Just my .02.

My personal opinion is, only above like 45mph. I have an AFE intake, and it sounds "cool" on takeoff. But as I gain speed I swear it feels like a "powerband". Almost like the air is being pushed in. With all the electronics, that doesn't really make sense. But that is how I can best describe it. It was $226 at autoanything. Haven't really noticed an mpg gain, but I have been playing since I installed it. Maybe when I relax that will show :-)

chris4x4 dynoed the K&N on his 2.7L and found a 5 hp loss. You have to realize something with the shitty CAIs like K&N. It makes its so the truck no longer pulls cold air from the fender, but it makes your truck pull hot air from inside the engine compartment.

You have the same hp as the newer trucks. They changed the way they measure the HP, not the hp of the engine.

Here is the link that works. I do not know if the 2nd gen air boxes are the same or not but it is a good write up. |

i just put a K&N CAI 57 series on my 2.7l taco and i can def feel that it made a diff in throttle response and overall acceleration. Not a huge difference but noticeable. It isn't saving me gas now since i'm still excited to have it and punch it a lot haha but i don't have to downshift for hills half way up that i used to have to before.....It's worth the money and you can't go wrong with the warranty

What he said. Some of you guys say that the dyno proves K&N wrong and I'm sure you know what you're talking about. So maybe the increased noise from the intake has me fooled. But just like tacomagus said, I feel like I have more power on reserve even in high gears. Plus the chrome just looks cool under the hood. I would still recommend it. |

i recomend removing the secondary air filter and a k&n drop in.it makes a noticable difference and is a lot cheaper.

Personally I would avoid K&N all together. Not very good filters
