Snow tires for stock suspension

In Flagstaff we're getting hit with a pretty intense snow storm and I am pretty hesitant to take the truck out anywhere beyond the main roads... or my unshoveled driveway. It's a 5-speed regular cab, not 4WD or prerunner. I am not looking for the biggest tires to fit under the rig, but I wanted to know if anyone knows of a good tire for the snow. Thanks!

 

i have an 06 sport trd, stock suspension.

i'm running 265/70/17 bridgestone winterforce tires. no complaints about them!

 

i've got

firestone winterforce tires in stock dimensions. but they appear larger when you put them on because of those big knobbies Drop a few 60lbs. sandbags in the back and you'll be rocking! I have a 5spd. regular cab, but with 4wd.

awesome in the snow, excellent traction. fine around town and all that, but are noisy and slightly numb the steering feel. so if you do alot of highway driving on clean asphault i would find something quieter and with a less aggresive tread.

by the time you buy and install tires the snow will have cleared haha.. but for next season.

Just thought I'd chime in about the Winter-Force tires. I'm a 2wd base and I have a couple of extra steelies with those tires on them. Very good snow tire....plenty of grip to get me around.

 

Lots of good winter tires, also look for/consider AT or ASR with "severe wheather" rating(mountain+snowflake symbol).
I went stock size in case i actually ever use chains, they'll fit either set
If you cant make a snowball because the snow is so dry, good chance a normal tire will cut through the snow to the ground too, ...foods for thought

 

Thanks for all the advice guys! It's been snowing non-stop for about two days with a little rain here and there. If I end up living here any more winters I am definitely going to get a set of winter tires.
