    I don't have a tach in my '01, but I'm guessing around 2000-2500.

Under light acceleration, around 2200, but if I'm at a light and need to get in front of someone, around 3200

2200-2500 on the 1-2 shift, 2000 for all others.

The 2.7 is a torquey engine that makes good power down low. You don't really gain anything by revving the crap out of it - except lower fuel mileage.

I shift @ 2750-2800 RPMs for best gas mileage. It's a shame this truck does not have a Auto spec's 3.58 gear, i think it would alleviate the low speed bogging in 2nd gear and get better gas mileage and performance. Perhaps this summer if the truck is still around....;)

But the higher RPM's when cruising in 5th gear would more than offset whatever savings you got in 2nd gear. I think that's why 2.7L PreRunners with the 4.10 rear gear get significantly worse fuel mileage than 5-luggers with the 3.31. Of course the higher ride height and larger tires hurt it too - but I bet the gearing makes the biggest difference. I'd imagine the engineers at Toyota know a thing or two about it.

Y'all really baby your trucks, I have a 4.0 and I'm usually about 3-3.5k and I can usually get around 17mpg

I, for myself, shift from 2000 to 2500 during normal accelerations. The question is not about babying the truck, but not burning gas for no reason. I often rev my truck to red-line, and play with it, but why get 17 mpg in the city when I can get 19-20 for example?

I want to know who's driving theirs above 5000 on a regular basis? I've seen the factory torque and hp curves and above about 4000 it drops a lot, no point to anything over 4000 except for noise. Having said that, I get a definite "bump" when I reach 3000, so I generally rev to a little over that before shifting.

Oh, I'm not saying I never rev it over 2500 RPM's either, but in "normal" driving, that's how you get the best fuel mileage out of it.

I've got a G1 2.7 and can't find good a rpm to shift from 4 to 5. What do you guys shift at between those gears?

20 is pretty much out of the question for me, a 4.0 double cab :(
Yeah, going over 5k is crazy, that's a really good way to get a ticket
I understand. If I'm low on funds for gas than I will not go over 2500, but my normal range is about 3200

I come close to redline on a few shifts most times I drive it and shift at about 3-3.5K most of the time. Last tank was 16mpg mostly city driving with the 4.0L
