I've always had 32x11.50s on my '98 2.7L. I really want to go up to 33x12.50 All-terrains. I've got 6 in of lift so clearance will not be a problem. I briefly had a set of 33x12.50 Thornbirds on my truck, but I sold them after about a year because of the noise and it would bog down in overdrive, which I attributed mostly to the knob and resistance of the Thornbirds...

I think with a smoother tire, I will be able to use overdrive even in a 33x12.50. I would appreciate any insight you guys may have to offer.:)

My truck is a 5 spd.

    Oh Well,
I just ordered 33x12.50 BFG All-Terrains. I know I would have kicked myself if I had gone with more 32s! 33s just look so much better to me. So what if I wont be passing anybody:D;)

I just mounted 33X10.50x15 BFG T/A KM2s on stock rims on my 2000. My truck is a TRD with the 4.30 diffs, so the 33s essentially brought my rpms down into the "stock" range. I lost a little power, but again, it just brought it back to where a 4cyl would normally be. I'm happy with mine. On the other hand, I go more for the effectiveness of the tire, rather than the look. The narrower tires are actually better for traction in all terrains except deep sand, less rotating weight (translates to better power and gas mileage), and no rubbing issues with a 2" lift.

By the way, love the tire. Smooth, quiet, great tread...tall!

I've got 3.58's and 33x12.5 Kumho KL71's and I still use 5th gear and pass people on the freeway.

with the 4.88 is there a decrease in power and MPG or did it bring it back to stock ratio. I have been on fence to do 5.29 to go to a 33" but My taco came with 265's with 4.56 and hills are not its friend

Lots of folks are happy with 4.88s and 255/85 (33.3) tires.

If your regularly on the highway, It's recommended to go with 4.56 gears.

My driving is more around town...so 4.88s for me please :)
