the only real effective way to change anything is gearing and forced induction. OR there are these awesome black boxes on ebay that unlocks secret speed... :D

    I have 98 2.7L 4x4 Reg Cab 31" with 3.58 gears

I put a k&n intake, LC Engineering header, and a cat back exhaust and that made a big difference in power. Probably 20-30 horsepower - just guessing.

I can accelerate much faster than my brothers stock 98 4 Runner V6.

He just has more power at highway speeds because my truck needs lower gears.

Well.....A NWOR header on my first genner gave 12 hp, the exhaust gave about 4, but teh K&N lost about 4. Being as the LCE header gives a little more on top than the NWOR header, I think the 15 may be accurate....depending on if the OP has a Flowmaster exhaust or not. If he does, then your 8 hp is more accurate.

OP, If you want more powwa, Consider this:

Combined with a decent set of headers (Anything except Pacemaker), and a cat back, and you will put out more HP than the NA 3.4. I was putting 168 hp to the tires with my set up, while the 3.4 was putting down about 150. And I always got 20+ mpg.
