Hi, my name is Eddie, I just joined this site, I have lurked here a couple times and love it!

Now, to the mater at hand. My speedo went out on me, and from what I gather the instrament cluster I have is quite rare, it is pre 6/97 and has a tack, all I can find is a tackless cluster and am wondering if posable and how hard it would be to get a tackless cluster and remove the speedo from it and fix the speedo on the cluster I have.

Have you verified that the speedo is what has failed? You have a cable that runs to it from the transfer case. I would verify that the cable is working properly before looking at replacing the cluster.

Ya, I had to replace my heater core, so while in the prosses of doing that I had ordered a speedo without tac from ebay, I realised after getting the heater core done and taking it for a test drive to warm it up without the cluster in stalled that the speedo cable wasn't turning, now gotta spend another $100 on a cable on top of the $75 for the cluster I didn't need, wasn't a tottal loss though I needed a couple light bulbs and the lense on mine was cracked so I traded that out for the one I got.

Check at the transfer case. Disconnect the cable and manually turn it while someone inside is looking at the cluster end. A broken speedometer gear can also cause the cable to not turn. Verify before EVER ordering a part.
