Hi there! I have a 4x4, red, 1999 sheep feeding, 166,000 miles young, awesome truck that has been in 4 x's for check engine light. It first appeared on a year ago & i was told just ignore it. She runs great but it bothers me & am fearful of breaking done. the toyota repair man first replaced the VSV ??valve & charged 440. bucks as he said maybe welding up the holes in muffler would turn sensor off. OK heres 99 bucks for muffler. Nope, then they looked more & was sure it was the VSV valve as it coded? the light was back on 5 miles away from shop. I drove it around farm till last monday, brought it in he said opps sorry just a valve wire was loose, no charge, she good now. Light back on by time reach the farm 8 miles away! In today & they say it needs the modulator valve replaced - needs a good technician to figure this one out & we are cutting the price to $175.00 for part & labor. is this just hooey?
Thank ewe for any ideas as they would have to order part.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If its a 2.7 someone on here fixed it by replacing the EGR temp sensor but that may not be your problem. Good luck sorting it out.

OK, so i have a failed modulator valve. Should my truck run rough or a lot of fuel - she doesn't. Should i just keep driving her with check engine on as i have for 1+ yrs now? The new VSV sure did nothing for me. What do I benefit for installing $175 of a new modulator valve? What if the check engine light is still on? Is this valve something I can buy at Auto Zone & have my husband install? Or is it sort of complicated to get to?
thank ewe for any suggestions or experiences on these units
    sincerely

Looks like the valve is $60-$80 on line but if you're more comfortable letting someone else do it just do it
