I don't know anything about the Meade. Cheapest spotter I would consider for general range use, expecting it to last a good amount of years, would be either a Konus or Barska Blackhawk ED. Both can be had for right at $200.

Of course, more $$ buys you more quality, clarity and durability. Optics is one of the few places where there is an almost direct correlation between more money spent and better product obtained.

Just buy some steel targets for the price you are thinking about spending on that scope and some white spray paint to paint them from time to time. If you have never shot steel you need to, instant feedback is very nice. You can even tell a difference between bullet weights by how hard you gong the target. This is exactly what I asked my wife for for Christmas.

Spotting varmints at night from my porch. The light has a 600+ meter throw. Should be effective against Zombies too when we get to that point. :D

Just wondering if anyone would get this:

    http://palmettostatearmory.com/8925.php

I'm just getting into the market for an AR, and I'd rather do the "Buy Once, Cry Once" method. I've heard good things about PSA, and from what I've read, mid-length ARs are easier on the action than carbines.

Seems like a decent price for a mid-length. This would be an all-purpose type of firearm, with some hunting, plinking and home-defense applications. I'd probably end up mounting some flip-up iron sights and a telescopic optic eventually.

What say you? Yay or nay?

Looks like a decent gun for the money to me, but I'm no expert

I am, however, a PSA fanboi being that they are approx. 5 min from my apartment

I'm a little worried about the 14.5" barrel. I wonder how much accuracy downrange I'd lose because of it. I'd like to be able to make solid groups out to 200+ yards.

I'm no expert either but in think u should be pretty tight at 200 yards.. Someone correct me of I am wrong... Also I think will depend on load waits and optics as well...

The problem with 14.5" is not so much accuracy as it is the need to "pin" the flash hider unless you have paperwork (Federal) permitting a short-barreled rifle.

To be legal the flash hider has to be permanently attached to the barrel. Many AR shooters want the liberty to change or upgrade muzzle devices.

    That's not a true "middy".
    It's got a carbine-length barrel (14.7) with a mid-length gas system.
A true middy is always mid-gas and usually on a 16" barrel.
    Mid-gas rigs are very popular.

PSA is offering some of the best deals in AR's and AR parts these days.
    They don't sell junk.

There is a lot of junk being sold elsewhere....a high percentage is crap.

Carbine gas on a 16" is also very popular but they look out of scale to me.

Not to split hairs, but all things being equal you should actually have more accuracy with a shorter barrel, not less, because it is relatively stiffer. Degredation in accuracy comes from shorter sight radius if you're relying on iron sights, and perhaps with more wind drift over a given distance due to lower velocity and more flight time.

You should be able to get steel plate hits out to 400 yds easy on a steel torso with a 14.5", especially if you can read the wind a little and know your holdover. Even easier if using magnified optics.
