If she is familiar with Guns and has shot the calibers mentioned above, then I would recommend either a .40 or .45. XDs are real nice shooting guns IMO. But as most have suggested, it's always best to have her find one that "feels right" in her hand and then pick the most suitable caliber.

I had a S&W model 66 357mag with a 4" barrel. It was kind of heavy but the recoil wasn't that bad. And like someone posted earlier you can also shoot 38 spl. in it.

So i showed momma your responce and she said "does he disrespect his momma like this?" "I thought those boys would be helpful, but i guess not with those comments" She also said shes not a kid wanting a "toy" shes a grown 45yr old woman that has a grandchild.... just thought i would pass this along. She also said she doesnt need repremanding from some snot nosed, wet behind the ear 21 yr old boy....

better watch momma, shes got spit fire and vinegar in her veins.

-1 for you sir. and this is a truck thread so you cant expect me to be a firearms expert, not to mention you didnt answer the question at all. If i knew everything about firearms, I wouldnt be asking questions now would I?

yeah it sucks hopefully he can go back soon. he tried for unemployment but since he started with the compant mid term, the difference between the third term (when he started) and the 4th term was too big so he didnt qualify  :( hes the bread winner, mom was a stay at home mom now theyre deciding if she needs to get a job and them find a sitter.

Check out taurus they are making alot of cool revolvers right now the model 405 is a 5 shot .40 cal so pretty managable recoil it also uses full moon clips so you can reload quicker. Only prob is its a 2in barrel. http://www.taurususa.com/pdf/2011_taurus_newcatalog.pdf
Also chiappa is making a cool .357 that shoots from the bottom barrel so that reduces muzzle flip and makes recoil more manageable. They come in 2, 4, or 6in barrel.
