Probably because it's not really a "compatible" charge

I've been driving for about 12 years and been cited for speeding twice, and following too closely once (there's a thread about it on here somewhere - I found it to be a pretty BS situation). I think I'll be fine.

That said, yay for PJC still staying! And of course, we get rid of this, but allow Alienation of Affection laws to remain...makes a lot of sense.

Thanks! I will talk to the officer and see if he will lower the charge in exchange for a guilty plea.

Well I got to court and spoke to the officer who wrote me the ticket and he told me he will get to me soon. So I sat down for maybe 10 minutes and he called my name and asked me what I would like to do. I told him I would like him to lower my offense to 9 mph over and he said he could do that. I had my fine reduced from $133 to $81 and paid the $81 fine and I was back business. The local lawyer wanted $400 to do what I did in 10 minutes. That gives me savings of $452 to spend on motorcycle toys and maybe something for my family being that Christmas is coming soon. :)

Now the question...did this positively alter your future driving behavior?

Not sure how it goes in your state- and I'm obviously late to the party on this one. But for future reference:

If you have a CLEAN driving record- Plead not guilty. When your court date comes up, if the cop doesnt show, tell the magistrate you move to have the ticket dismissed. It will be dismissed.

If you go to court and the cop is there- when they call you up, state that you'd like to change your plea to 'no contest'. This will result in a reduced fine, and more importantly an 'adjudication withheld' disposition on your ticket. This means no points on your license and no impact on your insurance.

Agian I can only speak to the process where I am, and for those who have a clean driving record...

If one officer clocked you, and one officer cited you couldn't you just ask to see the radar gun (at the scene) or even require both officers at the court date. If the one that cited you didn't gun you he's not witness to what the gun said.

IDK for sure, but it seems like you'd need both officers/troopers there.

My real opinion is you speed you pay. I speed all the time, been ticketed once (knock on wood) but my motto is it's the cost of doing business, and if I don't like the 5-10 over business I can always go slower to save on those costs.

I'd have just mailed in a check for the amount and not made so many waves. At this point the officer/trooper maybe upset that he has to come into court and say nay to reducing the violation, and like was said if you ask for a jury you're then going to push the magistrates buttons.

    man up and pay up

FYI- this is NEVER the case. First of all, its part of job, so it is what it is. 2nd, if said court time is outside of your shift, its an automatic 3 hours OT :D- so nobody who likes money gets upset about going to court.

    Not in SC

We are not required to lock in a speed, nor are we required to show you the radar

As far as having both officers in court, it is not required, because in the eyes of the law, essentially if one cop clocks you and says i just got him for doing 100, that word is good

actually it's points cut in half each year IIRC

so 2 years but 2 points SHOULDNT affect your insurance...just dont get any more moving violations in the next 2 years

Sounds like you got a good bargain, glad it worked out for you. I got a 38 in a 25 zone ticket 3 yrs ago, went to court, luckily the officer had more important things to do that day, no show, dismissed. I took this as a lesson even so and drive the limit...most of the time.
