Agree with those that say it depends.... IMO the busier/bigger the street, or the more houses that are lit up, the more likely it is that you should walk, though weather pending.

Peacock Lane here in Portland is a good example of when to walk... Been around since the 1920's, it's a few streets of houses, I'd say about 5-6 blocks of total length, where Homeowner's Association states that residents must put up decorations, and most of them go really overboard. You're also not allowed to drive down the streets. They've got carolers and carriage rides during peak times, and there's often a lot of info and history on each of the homes.

There's a few other neighborhoods that I can think of where the houses really go all out, but nothing about driving or walking.

Otherwise, get out and walk.... better for your health, you won't run over some idiot that way, better for the pocketbook. Plus, IMO, that's part of the beauty of this time of the year - enjoying the cold, crisp weather and taking in the scenery.

Well i live in an area where there are only a few houses on the street. I would have to walk at least a mile to see even one light.

Just a bunch of old crap
Who the fuck walks around and looks at lights? I can see maybe if there's a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood that's closed to traffic at nights because all the houses went overboard. Then you walk it. Otherwise, watch that shit from the warmth and comfort of your own vehicle. You can see 1000X more lights in the same amount of time as walking in one neighborhood.

    Case closed.

    Just ask her this:

Baby, would you rather look at X-mas (say "X-mas," it makes it more hipster) with me banging you in the ass in a nice warm truck, or would you rather look at X-mas lights with me banging you in the ass out in the freezing cold where everyone can see?

Whatever her answer is, you win.
