I'm mad. My advance doesn't even have them in stock. I just order off Amazon.

Wish I would have bought a couple then...didn't know they were such good filters.

I opened one up and didn't like the big metal screen on top of the filter, so I went to Autozone and got a STP filter because I needed a fiter ASAP because I had just sold my POS K&N...and the STP was cheap.

Next time I do an oil change I will get either a stock denso air filter or a Pure one.

I've been considering the Pro Dry S for my next change.

Are either of you running the deckplate or elbow mod, or do you have the stock airbox?

How could you tell, or where did you see this demonstrated/proven? Is there a study?

Where did you see dust after the filter? Or did you notice you TB getting dirtier?

    I have the elbow mod.

I am an avid viewer on Bob is the Oil Guy and someone did a study there. Can't find the thread, might be gone . Anyway, they proved that even though you "cleaned" the filter, particles are still trapped inside the fibers and restricting flow. After all, it's not the particles that you can see that are affecting your engine. It's all the 2-100 micron particles that don't burn clean that cause wear inside the engine.

Interesting. Yeah, I like BITOG. I'll dig around for that study when I have some time. Thanks.

Prior to adding the K&N I added a header to the truck, so I had to remove the intake. So while it was off I cleaned the entire intake, so it was spotless. After about 1000 miles using the K&N I took of the intake just for shits and giggles to see if the K&N was letting in any dust (like I had heard). And after running a white cloth through the intake there was quite a large amount of dust on the cloth. Most of it was after the air filter in the upper part of the airbox and the intake tubing after that.

I couldn't believe how much dust it let in so I made sure that all the intake clamps and vacuum hoses were tight and they were all good.

Mind you, here in FL it is very dusty, and where I go wheeling it almost all soft sand, so multiple vehicles creates lost of dust and silt...but the K&N shouldn't have let in as much dust as it did.

I am running the elbow mod, but no deckplate.

So to be clear, that was an oiled K&N, not an AFE Dry?

I have an AFE pro Dry that someone can have if they want to pick it up (delaware). I bought it in or around august and ran it for maybe 5000 miles.... Didnt really see any change in fuel consumption (or power obviously) to speak of... So i took it out and put in a factory toyota filter.
As far as im concerned, id rather be sure im protecting the motor from unnecessary wear, esp if im not gaining anything to speak of.... thwe bottom line is, if someone wants an AFE pro dry, they can have it.

    affirmative, oiled K&N

Next time you go to the autoparts store. Grab a K&N off the shelf, take it out of the box and look through it up at the light....you can see light coming right through tiny pinholes all through the cotton gauze....no bueno...Imagine how many small dust particles that can get through.

A K&N would be a great choice if your truck never sees the dirt...but otherwise..

OEM style non-oiled paper fiber filter FTW. Engine protection>Performance/MPG's any day. (like a drop in filter increases HP or MPG's anyways)

Yeah, I've never been interested in an oiled filter at all. Sounds like a pain, plus MAF fouling. I was thinking of the AFE dry mainly because I like that idea of reusing things rather than filling landfills.

In the long run, I am am far more interested in keeping the inside of the engine shiny and smooth.

Yeah, I sold my K&N very soon after buying it lol....

I kinda bought it without thinking...saw it was made in the USA, and hell, its a K&N right??

I am all for saving the environment and re-using things...but not at the expense of my engine.

Been running K&N for 40,000+ miles of dirt, mud, street, sand, and rocks putting some demand on my engine. No issues yet. Not advocating, just throw'n my .02 into this.

wait so if the pureone filters out dirt much better(99.6%) then wouldnt that mean less cfm of air into the engine?

First of all, no, unrelated with today's technology. Second, the more air you send in, the more fuel the engine compensates with. Cold air intakes add more air at the expense of 2 things: filtration and fuel mileage.

It really depends on what you want. If you want your truck to sound better, go cold air intake k&n or AFE. If your looking for engine longevity and better filter function, go basic drop in. If you wanna go somewhere in the middle get a k&n drop in that you oil or a AFE dry drop that you don’t need to oil. Its really a preference thing at the end of the day.

I run oil k&n but am going to switch to a AFE dry and give that a go sometime

Ask in third gen section. They are the only ones sucker enough to fall for the upgrades to the air filter system lmao

Factory(or similar) air filter will provide the most complete and best filtration for the health of your engine. Period.
Toyota made their name on longevity and reliability. That's why they don't use oily air filters. If those filters improved engine health, vehicle manufacturers might look into them.
