Well first of all yes I did read the LT FAQ.

Also some shops I was talking to contradicted some things mentioned in the FAQ.

I wanted to hear other options that are NOT mentioned in the FAQ.

I have a 4x4 because I wanted one, it was required to make it to make it to work sometimes at my last job (-14 degrees, sideway snow, ice, drifts several feet deep so you waited for the plow...), and it's a Toyota 4x4.

Did I mention Toyota 4x4's are the best?
I've had an '83, '85, '07 and now an '09 Toyota. I have a Toyota MR2 and my wife drives a Toyota Matrix. So pardon me if I am a fan of Toyotas.

I wasn't looking for hostility, I am asking for peoples information that have been down this road already.

I want to do something a little different than every other lifted Toyota I see everyday.

I would like to go off-road but I can't risk damaging anything. It's my daily driver and making it to work Monday is pretty important.

I appreciate the constructive criticism, I can look into the mid travel kits, any recommendations would be appreciated.

As I originally stated I really enjoy the looks of the glassworks fenders and every truck that I had read about, at least so far, had LT kits. The shop I spoke to said that was the only real way to fill the fenders I was considering.

Would l like to get the correct look without spending a lot of money, of course.

Now that other options have been presented I can follow-up.
I'm am not a fan of wheel spacers or insane offsets due to the obvious bearing stress. Also strut spacers might be an option but I don't really like those either and would prefer to go another route.

    I appreciate your constructive help.

    Thanks. :)

no one was being hostil at all, they were telling you the truth. do not go lt, it will be the worst decision of your life.

honestly, just air down a little bit to soften the blow, and go a little slower thats your best bet.

or you can get camburg ot TC upper control arms with a coilover.

I drive past Allen & Hall everyday coming from work. I'm sure we've passed each other. Any local Toyota gatherings, can take it to another thread if needed?

Like I said above my truck is mostly daily driver, that's what it is. Work is important, if I had another option I would take it, but unfortunately I am not independently wealthy.

Send me a Pm sometime and maybe we can compare notes on what options are available or if you know of a local shop that very knowledgeable that would be great.

    Of course.

The purpose of my original question was that I like the wider look of the glassworks (or similar) fenders. To look right you would need to widen the stance of the truck. LT seemed one of the few ways to accomplish this, which is why I posted this in the LT forum because I figured they would be the most knowledgeable.

Preferably I would like to find a local knowledgeable, HONEST shop and simply go there where I can touch, see and feel whats out there.

That also being said as my daily driver I would have to do whatever I choose in the course of 2 or 3 evenings + weekend when I can leave the wife stranded at home and use her car for work. :)

    Thanks!

Yeah maybe or we can meet up on the weekends sometime and talk about trucks and what the best route it for you. There are a few of us local and we meet up every now and then to BS while eating. Yeah..I'm sure we've passed each other before sometimes haha

We have an Oregon Washington BS thread..feel free to post in the sub regional forum if you have any other questions. Have you looked into the All-Pro LT kit? They're much cheaper than Camburg and TC. And I'm assuming you are going to go fiber glass front and rear, correct?

    Watch out..Zach is stalking you!

    Dunno?

I don't know anyone in the car or truck scenes. Used to be into it years ago but got extremely burned by some crooked people. Think years of screwage and 5+ $ figures so I just said F it and did the family thing. (Which is more expensive LOL).

Your profile doesn't have a picture?

I've seen a few LT rangers running around the area, one I think likes near my house as he passes by on occasion.

But like I said I don't necessarily want to go LT just initially that is the way I was pointed to accomplish the wider stance.

    oil change...
    glassworks - $300
    paint for fenders - $200+
    35's - $1000+
    20's - $600+

your already at $2100 and you have not even touched the suspension...

allpro LT $2,295 I think the TC LT is around $2,800
extended axles to keep your 4x4 - $495
    extended travel coilovers - $1,050 +

thats $3840 just for the front suspension and that's if YOU install it and already have all the tools needed.

so as of now you are at $5940 and you still have stock suspension in the rear.

for the rear your looking at
    springs and shocks - $700
    glass bedsides - $500
    paint for bedsides - $250+?

now your at $7390 and thats being conservative and IF YOU can install it all yourself.
You said your not wealthy but to me that is a LOT of money for somethinf that will just be for "looks".

LT is expensive man and not really worth buying unless you are going to drive the hell out of it. The only shop I can think of that does really good work is metaltech located in Newberg, Oregon. If you had a LT kit installed by them I am pretty sure you are going to get raped. You are better off installing it yourself. There are a ton of guys in Oregon who are willing to help. I wouldn't go LT unless you are going to wheel the truck.

    from the 1st post.

you obviously do not know jack or shit about a bolt on long travel suspension and have prob never gone for a ride in a LT truck.

when you install a long travel kit, your sway bar goes bye bye = lean.

when you install a long travel kit you are installing performance, race parts which make every kind of noise imaginable... and then some = rattle.

when you install a long travel kit you are installing an off road performance based suspension with shocks that are valved to perform their best at high speed in the dirt. not on the road = drives like shit (on the road, and can drive like shit off road too with out proper shock tuning)

honestly, it's just easier to tell you it's a stupid idea than to try to explain why because there's just soooooooooo much more to it than any stranger on the internet can explain to you

That looks pretty close to what I was wanting to see.

Like I said I was being steered towards an LT kit, I am glad, despite some peoples EGO's, that I got the information I did.

This thread can now be closed I got the info I needed and a few people PM'd me with some very helpful info.

    I appreciate the effort.

    Thanks.
