Yes, it's been done... But not like this. So i thought i would share what i did.

I very rarely tow, but didn't want anything to happen to the plug. I wanted to relocate it and checked out the other posts and how they did it, and decided i wanted to do something different. I also wanted to add some cheap reverse lights. I picked up a set at wal-mart ( not the cheapest ($20) i could find, but they were the smallest).

I started by pulling the plug off of the truck. Then i pulled the plug apart and removed the the (ground) wire and the (reverse light) wire out. next, i soldered on new wire to the terminals for each. Then put it all back together. drilled a hole in the bummper, installed my flip down plate bracket (ordered off the net) and installed the plug, aux rev lights, wired everything up, tucked the wiring up out of the way, and that was it.

I plan on installing a switch at a later date so i can turn on the lights when ever i want. I followed the other posts about relocating the plug and the pics will show the rest.

Thanks to the OP(s) for leading the way!! And my buddy for the help!

Pretty slick. How much pressure do the springs put on the connector/wire harness when it's plugged in?

Also, you forgot to blank out your plate number in the first pic...

DOH! oh well. lol. anyway, it's not a lot of pressure. the 7 to 4 adapter locks in pretty tight. i think it will be ok. i guess i'll find out if i ever tow something! lol.

Great idea. Reminds me of the old-time gas caps. Where did you mount your lights? To the trailer hitch, or to the bumper? Was there any drilling required for that?

I did that with my 06. It was not a good surface to make a nice hole but you did not really notice with it bolted on. It worked good.

there where all ready holes under the bumper, so i just used those.

2" hole saw. then i used a sand paper flapper wheel to smooth it out. it has sand paper, scotch brite pad etc, etc.

i almost did it that route. i found a smaller 7 pin plug at lowes that i was going to use, but returned. it would have fit much better than the stocker.

i know man! bringing the 80's back!

Nice job! +1 for ingenuity. But here's a question...

How do you intend to show your license plate when you do end up towing something? Wouldn't it be completely illegal to have it folded down like that just to plug in the power?

It is hard to see a license plate when you are towing anyway. There is a license plate on the trailer. And finally, its Louisiana, nobody cares. You probably could not get away with this in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.

yeah, i'm not worried about it. as stated, i very rarely tow. and, it's no different than a truck with a rollpan and a hiden hitch. they have the same set up with the flip down plate. i've seen 2 in my home town in the last month.
