Just making sure my theory is correct

I know there are numerous threads about 5100's and leveling but i just wanted to confirm my thinking with some measurements.

So when I eventually get my 5100's up front i would like to level the truck. For some reason some people have luck setting them at .85 to level some have luck setting them at 1.75. So my truck is a 2006 DBL cab 4x4 with 47,000 miles. It has the stock 3 leaf pack in the back. My measurements for current stock height from bottom edge of fender to center of hub is LF: 20" RF: 20 1/8" LR: 22" RR: 21 1/5". So in theory i should be good to put the 5100's at 1.75 correct? I know by the number it seems obvious but i wasnt sure if there where any more variables that i wasnt taking into account. Thanks for any info and i apologize for another 5100 thread!

 

yeah thats what i was worried about. I guess its kinda a shot in the dark. Id hate to set them at .85 and when its all done realize i could have gone to 1.75. But at the same token it would suck to set them at 1.75 to find out i should have went with .85. haha. I dont want to do everything twice to make it right. I know i could just always get the aal in the back if i went 1.75 and its a little high.

 

Oh and one more question. I know there have been some mix ups in the past with the spring perch or whatever it is being upside down. Is it pretty obvious which way it needs to go? I couldnt find the thread with the right way and the wrong way pictures.

Do you have to remove the whole strut/coil assembly to adjust the height?

 

Yeah im pretty sure you do.

 

I see, so not only does it need to be removed, you need to use a spring compressor to relieve the pressure. I guess if you make the decision of what you want right the first time no big deal though.

 

yup that's the dilemma. I got some time to think about it or just buy an aal to. Who knows.

 

Take ur truck to a level spot and lift the front with a jack to each lift hight. Pay attention to the trucks body lines and top of the bed. I did this and found that at .85" the body lines and top of the bed were level, but the fender to tire gap was still a little less in the front. At 1.75" the fender to tire gap was about the same, but my body lines and the top of my bed were at a slight upward angle. I have a stock Prerunner with 96000 miles, 3 leaf pack in the rear and am running 245/75R16 with after market wheels. Your truck may be different, but it doesnt hurt to give it a try.

 

Im going to be using 5100's with stock coils to level the front of my truck. I have a question for those have used the same setup. Did the front suspension settle after the install? If so about how much? Also what was the actual lift provided after it settled? If anyone could help with this and maybe provide some measurements. thank you for any responses.
