Small Split in CV Boot

As the title says, there is a small gash in the CV boot. The boot is still in great shape, and the split doesn't go all the way through as it's not leaking grease. Should I worry about trying to seal the split before it spreads into a full blown tear? Silicone? Gasket sealant? Some other flexible glue? Thanks.

Re-booting CVs is relatively easy, but time consuming and messy. Better to not have them split in the first place if you can avoid it.

This. Fill it with something flexible but tough, a la RTV.

 

Thanks for the advice. I just slapped some flexible sealant on it. I'm going to be getting a 2" lift soon and I'm almost positive I'll have the needle bearing noise. If I can make these boots last long enough, I'll replace both axles at the same time ECGS comes out with their bearing replacement bushing. (Odd logic, but it works for me.)

 

Can't hurt to try sliding the boot down the axle a bit and re-clamping. I did it on mine, and it's holding up so far.
