I just received my new mini D2S retrofit kit for my 2012 tacoma. I was told that you need to modify the adaptor because it doesnt allow the projector to be level. I was wondering if someone has taking on this task with there 2012 can give me some guidance. Here are some pics and as you can tell the first pic in the middle of the light you can see the top of the projector line is not level. Is this what I need to correct? Also is the shroud suppose to sit flush with the reflector or is there suppose to be a gap like in pics two? Thanks everyone

There is a gap with mine...looks off but if you don't want it you need to do an FXR style install.

The notch or step is supposed to be there...however the rotation is off...several ways to do this...easiest is to shave the little notch in the alignment washer and rotate it to the correct spot (test fit your headlight)...then make sure it doesn't move...glue it and then it won't go anywhere...easiest way.

I used epoxy all around the adapter plate and first nut...don't forget to feed the wires through before you glue it like I almost did lol.

Ds2 are more of a plug n play. DS2 don't require any cutting of the head light reflector and is much easier to align. The H1's require percise cutting and take a lot of time to align!

I've always read that both the D2S and H1 are plug and play and require no cutting.

Im sorry... but this isnt the case at all. The mini d2s and mini h1 are almost identical with the exception that they use different bulbs in the projector.

The mini d2s was designed after the mini h1 to be able to accomidate a d2s bulb so that you could use higher end bulbs (such as philips) with this being said the light output and cut of on the h1 is way better since the projector was originally designed for it.

Now, if you look at the fx-r that requires a lot more work and "precise cutting" Just wanted to clearify.

Way cleaner, more depth. All black looks worse IMO. (Never thought I'd say that)
