Fix the gate for sure and let the pit roam around your house. Also you should consider buying a gun for self defense. Another great gun will be the Walther PPQ 9mm.

I have signs on my doors:

"This door is covered by a set gun. Set guns are illegal, but so is breaking and entering. I've made my choice, now make yours."

Have not had a single problem since I put them up...oh, and chased off the neighborhood slut's thugg boyfriend at shotgun point at 0130. He apparently did not know I had retired and was now home permanently, and had been casing the house waiting for me to leave!

something sounds fishy as hell to me! i would fake a git a way like someone els said and sit at home with some guns. but sadly you live in Cal!

this reminds me in ’10 my best friend came home from doing something with his grand parents and walked in his room. and found his tv/PS3/dvd Macbook and some other shit ready to be walked out the door. he has a porch off of his room and it have stairs and the forced the sliding glass door open. nothing in the hole rest of the house was touched! just his room. they think they wear in his room when they pulled in. and they scared them off.

put up signs saying you know and have informed all your neighbors to their presence. Fix your gate and put a LARGE chain and lock on it. Cameras may deter them, especially since they appear to be amateurs. Buying a gun for this when you are gone so often is just one more thing for them to steal, and something you don't want in their hands. A couple of cheap window/door alarms may scare them away if they do get in a door or window. A new car parked in the driveway with one of your friend's chillin in the house watching tv as often as possible may lead them to believe you have a new roommate.

Talk to your neighbors and have them park in your driveway so it looks like someone is home, until you can update your security.

So got the gate fixed, My dog is roaming around in the yard, double checked all locks, will be ordering some security signs and my uncle agreed to park his truck in my driveway whenever he is at work. I will still be purchasing a firearm hopefully soon but don't really intend to(or hope not to) use it in this situation. Like someone mentioned earlier, they are just going to be taking material stuff, nothing worth getting hurt over. I'll be ordering a couple cameras and just hide them outside to try to get plates and faces.

And I am pretty convinced these guys are newbs. Why would you come up to someone and ask them if they live alone and if anyone lives nextdoor? And scout a place for months. I bet that my house is not the only house being targeted and that they plan to hit a few in my neighborhood on the same day. I didnt get a chance to meet with my neighbor yesterday to get all the details but I will tonight.
