Unpainted base front bumper plastic

Hi guys, my truck was in a little fender bender and is at the body shop. They replaced the front bumper and I originally had my old bumper lower valance painted black with bedliner. They painted the new bumper with the factory pyrite mica paint but left the lower valance black with the unpainted plastic.

My question is how durable is the plastic bare? Should I demand them to paint it pyrite mica? Either way if they painted it or not, I was still going to redo the valance like my previous bumper.

Should I have them paint it with the factory paint; and then I paint it myself black, or should i just paint over the plastic black?

I guess what I'm asking is if the factory paint will be a good "primer" before I paint it with the bedliner or if the plastic is good enough.

How well would the bedliner stick to the plastic?? Should I still sand the plastic?

 

Why use bedliner? 303 Aerospace protectant will keep it black just fine.

 

I have the grille sprayed with bedliner so want everything to match up... Should I sand down the plastic before I spray?

 

Paint typicall does not stick well to plastic. When I had my valance painted the guy used a special plastic primer (adhesion promotor) first after sanding it.

 

Did you use bedliner?

 

This is the way I would do it: Roughen with 60ish grit sandpaper and use the adhesion promoter. Test a small, unseen area before you do the whole thing.

 

No, it is regular automotive paint (base coat and clear coat) on top of the primer/adhesion promotor. I used a Toyota color, Magnetic Gray Metallic. The pictures are a little dark and looks black, but it is dark gray.
