I also put 3 60lb. bags of tube sand in my truck when the weather turns cold. And I have a Snugtop shell that weighs the back end down too. If I do get stuck I can chop open a sand bag and dump some out to make instant traction. Our trucks are really light in the back end.

Ya full time 4WD I guess is alittle different than AWD. And I'm sure the FJ has 4X4 low also.

I guess the FJ would be considered a SUV.Most SUVs seem to have AWD/Full Time 4X4 but not many trucks.Trucks are for work more than SUVs but I would still like if I still lived in the mountains since I don't abuse a truck. Not Full time 4X4 but as a third selection like the government motors trucks.

I think it has traction control? It has a lot of buttons, one is labeled A Trac and I think it has one that says Auto LSD. So far these buttons are a mystery to me. I've poked at them a couple times but I'm not sure what they do. Now seems like a good time to find out.

It does, I believe both the Full Time and Part time systems offer a low range

    back to bone stock.
4x4 is just a slight advantage in snow. your best tool is to slow down and do everything a bit early..like braking.

a whole lot of 2wd cars survive snow season..the drivers are just good and smart.

I think practice is important. I learned to drive in Colorado in the winter. Then 12 years in Oklahoma pretty much erased those skills. Add in a switch from a front wheel drive Corolla to my Tacoma and... Yeah. Slow down, make no sudden changes in speed or direction, and avoid driving on bad roads when possible.

Great advice. There is another popular video of someone filming out of their apartment building after it snowed here in Portland. People trying to drive like normal down a big hill who end up ping-ponging down the whole thing and piling up at the bottom. Funny stuff, if only to understand that it could have been so different if the drivers have been trained to drive in the snow. One of the cars shows this best - the driver spent the whole time steering away from the skid, flooring it. Virtually ensuring that he never get any traction... and when he did get a little bit of it, it just sent him flying in another unpredictable direction.

I like the people in your vid who tried to go fast and speed around others, then ended up in someone's yard as a result. I have little sympathy for that.

Don't forget to add some weight in the bed of your truck for the winter months. You will be grateful that you did.
