new pick-up

I currently drive about 4000 miles per month for my courier job. I deliver business documents and small packages. Six months of the year I drive in snow anywhere from 3500 to 6500 feet in elevation. I am considering several different trucks with one being a Tacoma 4x4 with a camper shell. I am interested in the 4 cylinder model regular cab with either the automatic or stick. Miles per gallon will play a large part in my decision. Any input or suggestions on tranny choice will be appreciated. The area I drive is about half mountain curves and half long straight aways. Gas mileage is a premium consideration and expected total mileage before major repairs - clutch, automatic tranny. Thanks for any input.

 

Kind of a tough call blockbuster, If I had to deal w/stop and go busy traffic then automatic tranny. Elevation ranging from 3,500-6,500 feet I would consider the V6, especially if loaded with paper (documents). Welcome to TW.

 

I would go for an auto myself I dont mind my standard but dont have to do that much stop and go

I would definitely get the manual. I live on the other side of the mountains going from 4500' to over 7000' and have a lifted 4x4 AC 5 speed. I get 22 to 24 MPGs with summer gas & 19 to 21 MPGs with winter gas. It can handle a lot of hills in 5th, but some you have to drop in 4th to maintain speed.
