Project Honda Rincon

Well i bought a 2005 Honda Rincon 650 from a buddy of mine, LONG story short the motor was in a box and the rear end was froze up. It needed a new front axle and both rear axles needed to be replaced. The Suspension was shot from sitting in a shed for 2 years. Other than all that everything including the motor SHOULD be operational.

This week was the first time i finally got some i quality time with her. I got the rear end taken out and the new one is ready to go in "without axles" the new rear suspension was put on and i have the new front shocks put on. Also i took the motor apart and did a BIG RED gear reduction kit that knocks the gear ratio down 25% so i can run my bigger tires. Ill post up some progress photos and a price list as i get it done. The rear axles are going to be the last thing i do because the rear end is the last thing i have to put in and the biggest expense on her about 150 an axle.

It looks kinda dirty in the second picture because its been sitting in a shed for two years, the plastics and everything actually clean up pretty nice.

 

sub. love honda 4 wheelers and dirt bikes! we have 2 honda 4 wheelers. and have not had and probs and i ride the site out of them flipped them and everything never even broke anything.

 

Ive raced honda dirtbikes since i was a kid and have put those things through hell and growing up we had a little honda 250 four wheeler and i swear that thing could take anything i could throw at it haha. I cant wait to get this bad boy running, its going to primarily be my hunting quad for elk hunting but im sure ill ride it all the time anyways. I have another build thread for my CRF250 in my sig.

 

yeah i have a CRF150R got it in ’09 to start racing. raced a few races than uncle died and we had to deal with the house on weekends instead. want to get a 250and get back in to it. we have a ‘03recon 250. i have flipped it like4 times and i have crashed it in to a fence, jumped it. you name it i prob have done it on that thing. the plastic has some scratches but not even one crack. i’m on the gas 95% of the time i ride other 5% i’m locking the brakes up. have an ’04 rancher 350 4wd i ride like hell as well flipped it once. if i did not tell you you would never guess what i have but them thru. i clean them up all the time and do most the work on them my self.

 

Eventful week with the Rincon, motor back in the frame, front and rear suspension was replaced, greased up all the link and all that good stuff for the A-arms. I finally found the exhaust and hopefully this weekend i will get the carb cleaned out and get the bad boy fired up. Then all i have to do is wait for the axles to get here and i can finish it up.

reminds me i need to get my TT-R125 out and clean the carb and sell it. it has been sitting for like 2 years.

 

finally got to work on her again, new axles installed on the rear got the wheels and tires on her finally, exhaust on, and the air box all set up. I have to get a key made on monday and she "SHOULD" start. Had to order a few new bolts for the rear end and A-arms. Hopefully tomorrow i can get the plastics all put together and see how many bolts im missing. Then maybe ill work on the snorkel and start the overhaul on the front end of her.

 

oh yea, i put the new rear light in right before i came inside.

i know i just wanted to roll it outside to see how the rear end was working.

Also, the beast started today Idled for awhile ran it through the gears everything seems to be working, so im waiting on a few bushings and what not so i can finally get it going.

 

Rode it for the first time today. wouldnt shift gears for a second but a quick troubleshoot and i got it going. I rode it and cycled through the gears.

Im going to start the snorkel tomorrow and re-doing the seat cover. happy it runs now.

Also updated pricing on stuff, i came out right at 2200ish bucks for a functional four wheeler

we had a prob with the recon ES shifting. took it to dealer because i could not figurer it out! it was a relay or something like that. or censer. don’t remember. and the carb got dirt or something in it i took it apart and cleaned it. only prob out of it.

 

I had the same problem, on the display it flashed ESP 7 times and i looked in the service manual and it told me a solenoid was acting up and i found it and the connector was loose , it was stuck in second gear till i got it plugged in. Ill post some pictures when i clean it up a bit and get the seat done tomorrow.

 

yeah recon does not have the display like the rancher. but it does have 5 lights one for each gear. i think it would always mess up when i down shifted. don’t remember. i just used the back up shifter that is back wear tool kit is.

I used to have a set of tires like that on a quad. I turned them backwards and they hooked up a LOT better in the mud and snow.

 

Ill probably do that when they get worn down.

 

Took it to Alto OHV park and she did work! I lost four wheel drive when i broke a front axle (it was shit anyways) the second day. Ran through the carb and put an inline filter from the gas tank because i was getting sand from there and she runs like a scalded ape. even in 2wd she has plenty of torque to push those 28's. The oil temp light keeps coming and an i have a slow water leak from a weep hole by the water pump so im gonna have to run through that and see what the deal is. Lastly the last night it started running like shit and dying so i stopped for a second and realized that the carb was constantly dumping fuel. So my guess is the float was sticking, another small fix to make
