Blistein question

So I don't really know a whole lot about lifts and such, but I bought this 05 taco a few months ago with under 12,000 miles on it. Well I wanted to put a lift on it to get the tires a little more out of the fenders, especially since when I chained it up this winter while hunting, my front chains were rubbing. Looking at the service records from toyota, it says an AAL was done on 06/28/2011 and it says this "CUTOMER REQUESTS SHOCKS REPLACED HAS OWN PARTS ~|~ ~|~9572 INSTALLED CUSTOMER SU PPLIED FRONTSHOCKS." for 07/06/2010. Well looking at them they say blistein on them (both front and rear) and kind of look like the 5100's but as you will see in the pics they are coated in an undercarriage sealant so I can't read the model numbers. My taco sits higher in the rear than the front so I was thinking if I have the adjustable 5100's I can just raise the front end up to level it out. Can you guys tell if these are the adjustable ones from the pics?


You can't really see it in the pic but the rear end sits a bit higher. You can tell more so by looking at the space difference between the front and rear wheel wells.

These 2 show the rings that I think mean it is adjustable and I think show that is is on the 2nd ring which means I should have another 1.65 inches of lift in it.

 

I believe those are 5100's based on the fact that they are silver in color instead of yellow and I can just barely make out a notch in the shock body that makes me think it is adjustable.

 

Those dont appear to be 5100s. They are silver not black. But if they are then you can set them to 1.75 to level out your tacoma. At that height you can run a 265/75/16 with no issues.

It appears to be set on the 2nd from the lowest ring and I can see 1 ring above the spring seat so I am assuming the 3rd ring is underneath the spring seat.

Does this number mean anything to you guys: e4-ft2-z003a01? I found it under the spring seats. I can't make out the other numbers...

From that picture I can say with 100% certainty that those are 5100's and that they are set at the .85" setting.

 

Nice. I was hoping they were after looking at them. Now I just need to figure out if I can manage to move them up to level it out.

 

You will need to disassemble them and clean out the next groove up completely (if it has any of that spray gunk in it). Unless you are confident and experienced with a coil spring compressor, I recommend having a shop do this.

 

I will have to talk to my uncle. He does lots of work on rebuilding cars in his free time and actually told me at thanksgiving that he had recently helped a friend put a 2.5" leveling kit on his taco. So he could probably help me out.

 

Well the suspension is already pretty stiff, but if I wanted a smooth ride I would have bought a car. haha. I'm used to the fact that pickups generally ride rougher anyway.

I'm pretty sure this vehicle had just 1 owner before me, based on all that I know, and because of the super low mileage on a 7 year old vehicle. I think it was only used for towing and I'm thinking they intentionally set the front end lower so it would level out when towing.

 

Yeah that is true. I guess what I was referring to was stock for stock cars tend to (or tended to, the new Dodges have gel packs and such to help them ride smoother) have smoother rides.

 

So I was looking at the specs for the 2012 DC Offroad Tacos and they come with the blistein shocks. Did the 05's also come with the blistein and the previous owner just switched out the front for the adjustable?
