Weird film all over truck

Just washed and waxed (spray wax) the truck today, only to find that there is this ridiculously stubborn greasy film all over it. I went over it a hundred times with my buffer and hand towel, but no dice. I only seemed to smear it all around. What kind of product can I use to completely clean this off? Is there a car wash soap that will cut through this stuff? I have no clue what it could be. I've used this spray wax many times before with no prob, so I know that's not the issue. Looks like grease got into my wash bucket, but that never happened. Pissed me off to spend so much time on my truck, then see this crap on there.

 

When you say you used spray wax, are you meaning the spray wax at a car wash where you wash it yourself? If so, the car wash owner may have changed brands of wax.

 

bug and tar remover sprayed on with water? idk sounds odd...

 

Do you live or work near 18 wheelers? Sounds like diesel fuel to me. I see you've got an 06; now might be a good time to drop a little $$ and get the truck professionally cleaned and detailed.

 

Dawn dishwashing detergent, followed by a claybar treatment and your preferred liquid/paste glaze/wax.

Spray on? It's an okay quick detailer, but not a true wax.

Think I'll take it to a professional. I read up on the detailing thread last night and it blew my mind. I've always washed and waxed my vehichles (carnauba wax, the spray between waxes) but I had no clue about claybars and sealants and all that stuff.

What is the price for a professional to detail the outside? Whatever it is, I know it's worth it.

The costs to pay others to do what you would require will probably not be very inexpensive. If you feel like trying yourself you can acquire the supplies yourself for very little in comparison. I use Griot's Garage products and have no hesitation recommending them to others.

 

Took it by the detaliers today. Felt of the truck (has something all over it) and said that he would def need to do a claybar treatment, wax, etc. He charges $40/hr for claybar. Said he'd do the wax for no cost, plus detail interior. Total cost will be $80 -- 2 hours for claybar. I think that's a pretty good deal. I would never have the time to do what all is required to clean my truck, plus I feel much better about having a professional take it from here. I'm just glad he can fix it!

Not a bad price. It takes me about 3 hours to do a full clay. And if he's including interior too, that's a plus! Regular exterior detail around here goes for a minimum of 120.

 

Claybar is pretty easy to do yourself. A megs kit, sold at Advance Auto and others, cost less than $20.

 

That sounds like a good deal. Whole truck claybarred(sp?), waxed, and interior detailed for $80? Seems too good to be true.

 

I thought so too. I was thinking min $150+. He was legit though. I asked like twice just to be sure. Was a cool dude.

I'm gonna stick around to watch him so I can do it myself next time. Usually just do carnauba wax, which is a PAIN, but I'm not too fond of letting other people work on my truck. I'm kinda very OCD about it!

Also a really good way to fuck your paint. I've seen guys not even thinking drop a claybar and pick it up then try to pick the dirt out... or run a clay bar over a dirty spot that was missed in the detail wash.

The semi-skilled guys working the buffers at the carwashes in my area get $100 for just a wax/buff.
