Hi yall. Been lurking and learning a lot the past few months.

Being too afraid to properly satoshi my grille, I decided to make some inserts myself.

    Tell me what you think.

Painted all 3 inserts black to hide my shoddy worksmanship.

All 3 pieces made and painted.

I was more worried about protection than looks. In the 2 days installed it has caught its fair share of bugs already.

    Neat idea!

Do you happen to know what gauge mesh you used?

My guess from the pics is that it is 1/4 on 5/16 staggered in .032

Anything thicker would have been a bitch to bent like that...

    Thanks for the positive feedback!

Homer, it's the "small perforated aluminum" from customcargrills. I actually did a horrible job. I plan on recutting some new inserts sooner or later.

My first time working with metal and tin snips.

Tools: 30 year old straight cut snips, claw hammer, pliers and zip ties.

Yup. That's the same as my M1 mesh... But mine is .063 which is twice the thickness...

Don't be down on the tools! I use a metal brake that is as old as I am! :D

I was toying with the idea of taking some 2000 grit to the mesh and then polish with some mothers. But I'm liking the black more and more.

Here are a few more pictures before I spraypainted em.
