I think a long weekend is in order, like head up on a Friday morning and come back Sunday afternoon. I always like to get 2 full nights in and have plenty of time to set up, relax for at least a full day, and time to tear down.

The spot I'm talking about is strictly camp where you find. No bathrooms, no pavement, no cement fire pits. It's on the top of a ridge but the tree cover is dense enough to block the wind but wide enough to get trucks and tents in. It's all shade, and like I mentioned it is only 200' down the hill on a trail to a private point on the lake away from the people on the other side who climb down from the organized camp sites.

I always catch a bunch of trout, and it's a perfect place for the crawdad traps. In the one homemade trap I have, I was catching up to 30 edible size crawdads per hour during the day, but that usually only happens in the hottest months (normally June through September). I want to make a few more traps and go up there and catch a thousand of those little bastards and have a huge crawdad boil.

Here's a shot of the lake right below the campsite:

This is the view on a foggy morning right off the point below the campsite. The island gives the lake its name:

A view off to the right of the fishing point. Lots of room to set up a few poles and a folding chair and catch some sun:

A partial view of my campsite so you can see the tree spacing:

I'm down. Let's get this planned. I cannot do the weekend of the 13th as the wife has something planned for my birthday, so I don't even think I'll be in the state. The earlier we plan this the better chance everyone has to get the time off for Friday.

I'm thinking May would be best. Weather will be perfect and the fish will be stocked. The crawdads might even be out and active by then. Right now I'm pretty much open in May except for the week of the 7th and through that following weekend.

CRAWFISH... I miss those so much... I am part Cajun, and from Cajun country, and I miss the food, especially crawfish.
